Casa Oceana

Recently our family stayed ten (10) days at Casa Oceana. The home was ideal for the fifteen (15) of us. Specifically: - Modern home with 8 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. Individually adjustable A/C units and fans in each room made it very comfortable for everyone. Having a dining table with a beautiful view, where all 15 of us could enjoy meals together was perfect. The media room and outdoor patio / pool were great places for everyone to just hangout and visit. Big refrigerator, dishwasher, washer & dryer. - Setting: ideal with pool & patio surrounded by palms and a variety of trees. Quiet and able to enjoy birds, butterflies, and a local troop of howler monkeys that visited in the morning and late afternoons most days. A few houses away, there was a flock of Scarlet Macaws (Ara macao)... one of the most dazzling birds I have ever seen. Location: excellent. Four beautiful beaches nearby which were not crowded in late July, early August. Stunning sunsets. Offered a variety of waves for everything from floating to body surfing, to board surfing. Everyone enjoyed, including our 7 grandchildren, ages 7-22. - Dining out: a bit disappointing. (a) We dined at 4 of the nearby (~2 miles) JW Marriott restaurants and were not very impressed with the quality of the food, especially for the price. (b) The Hacienda Pinilla Beach Club is in a pleasant, covered, outdoor setting. We liked the quality and variety of the food for both lunch and dinner. The fish was better than any we had at the JW Marriott. Service was very good. The hours, at least during the time we visited, were limited. Dinner dining until ~9PM only on Friday & Saturday. Closes earlier on other days. (c) Manta Restaurant: inconspicuous with both indoor and outdoor dining on Playa Avellanas. Indoor portion on top, with A/C, has a variety of art and very comfortable seating. It is owned by a Frenchman, Sebastian. Food quality, service, & price better than the JW Marriott. Would absolutely go back. (d) Private Chef Dining Experience: had a spectacular dinner for 15 prepared by a private chef & crew. Expensive, however, worth every penny. - Breakfasts: our "House Mom", Karen, prepared a variety of excellent breakfasts for us every morning. The fruit, especially the pineapples, was spectacular. - Concierge & Staff: being completely honest, we had some problems, including a pressure valve on the house water system failing on a Saturday morning. Our concierge, Collin McKillican, was exceptionally responsive. The Casa Oceana maintenance team quickly determined the problem, which required new parts, and got a plumbing company to fix and had 100% operational by Saturday afternoon. We had some other items, like intermittent internet service, which were resolved. - Transportation: having both a golf cart & cars was a requirement for us with the activities we did, plus dining out. (a) Car Rentals - we had a car from US-based Alamo Car Rental and one from a local company, Adobe Car Rental. Both delivered & picked up directly at Casa Oceana. Big difference: the local company, Adobe, was significantly less expensive and the cars of both companies (small SUVs) were very similar. Important: when possible, make your reservations in advance. Cars were quite limited, even during the less busy July-August. (b) Roads: the main, publicly maintained road into the into the gated Hacienda Pinilla area is closed and the detour is over a bumpy, dirt & gravel road. Inconvenient when going out of the area to Tamarindo or driving to other areas. Don't rely 100% on the Google map "time estimates" or directions. The internal roads within the Hacienda Pinilla rea are very good, including Casa Oceana community, the JW Marriott, and Pinilla Beach Club. (c) Airport Transportation to Casa Oceana: highly recommended, especially if you have never been there before. The roads, especially with the detour, can be confusing and it is very dark at night. Not unusual for smaller roads to NOT have reflectors or marked center lines, and there are some narrow bridges. - Security: very good, especially within the Casa Oceana development, where QR codes are required for entry. This applies even to car rental companies or food deliveries. The concierge coordinated providing the QR codes. - Family Photo Session on the Beach: we did a family, sunset photo session on the public beach associated with the JW Marriott. Great photographer and memories for the ages. - Bottom-line: we had a wonderful, very memorable time that none of us will forget. Would we rent from Stay at Tamarindo again? Absolutely YES.

We had a fantastic stay at Casa Oceana! The house was perfect for our group of 12. The space was immaculate, both indoors and out. We loved hanging by the pool and having big group dinners around the massive dining table. All of the bedrooms and bathrooms were clean and great sizes and everyone was very comfortable in the space. Access to the beach club near by was a nice bonus and perfect for beach days with a lunch at the restaurant there and the piña coladas at the poolside bar were 10/10. Collin went above and beyond. He was extremely accommodating in setting up shuttles and tours for us and was always available if we had any questions about the house or the area. Anais was a great “house mom” who kindly made us breakfast every morning and having her there to help tidy up and refresh linens really made it feel like a true vacation where your only responsibility was to relax. I wish I could give this place more than 5 stars and we will definitely be booking with Stay In Tamarindo if we’re ever back in the area!

My group loved this place. There were 12 of us and it was such a great space for a large group. Everything was very clean and new. The bedrooms were good sizes & 4 of them had private bathrooms. The pool was beautiful and we had a great time hanging both out and inside. The kitchen sink had filtered drinking water and an ice machine which were life savers.
I cannot stress enough how great Collin was as a host. He was super helpful with setting up shuttles for the airport and a waterfall excursion for our group. He was available anytime we had questions during our stay and was very on top of a lot of accommodations. Having a house keeper who made breakfast and freshened up the house everyday was a really nice part of this rental. We had Anais and she was lovely!
The beach club nearby was great for day trips. There’s a nice pool and bar/restaurant there.
I do recommend renting a golf cart to get around the community, especially if you don’t rent a car.

Estamos muy felices de haber escogido esta casa para nuestra estadía en Hacienda Pinilla. La casa es hermosa y super amplia, tiene todo lo que necesitamos para que nuestra estadía fuera cómoda y placentera. El servicio diario de mucama fue un plus que no esperaba, genial. La comunicación con el host fue siempre rapida.
Recomiendo altamente el lugar.

Casa Oceana was a fantastic house for our family. Stay in Tamarindo, the management company, was incredibly responsive and helpful. All of their recommendations were excellent. Helen, who came and cooked breakfast and cleaned Mon - Sat is delightful and goes over the top to accommodate everyone’s different requests for breakfast. We highly recommend this property and the management company.

The house was beautiful and fit our group of 14 perfect! Open layout and enough bathrooms for everyone ! The house is in a gated community and you have to go through security checkpoints! This is nice for a more intimate trip as there isn’t much to do in the surrounding area!

This was hands down the best travel experience I’ve ever had. Collin went above and beyond planning everything—from excursions and a custom cake to seamless transportation and even golf carts. He checked in regularly, handled last-minute requests with ease, and made sure every detail was flawless. The home was immaculate, with labeled rooms and thoughtful touches throughout. Ms. Helen, our incredible house mom, made the stay even more special with her joyful spirit, delicious meals, and constant care. She even did our laundry (with permission), refreshed towels, and made the beds daily. Every part of this trip felt safe, smooth, and luxurious. they even have access to a wonderful beach house with AMAZING FOOD . Even when Collin was off, his backup was just as helpful. We were truly treated like family. If you’re considering this place—don’t hesitate. It’s paradise. YOU DO NOT WANT TO MISS THIS !

We had an exceptional stay at Sheryl’s! The house was spotless, and our hosts went above and beyond to meet our needs. If you want a worry-free travel experience, this is the place! The home is distinctive, roomy, and exudes a calming yet practical vibe. If 6 stars were an option, this would be a place for it.
