Pictures simply do not do this property justice. It is exquisite, peaceful, and completely relaxing — truly the most peaceful and restorative vacation we have ever had. The view from the back porch is absolutely postcard-worthy.
We cannot say enough about the incredible staff. Melania kept the home spotless, and the meals and snacks she prepared for us were delicious. She was always pleasant, with a beautiful smile, and served with such excellence and care. Cris went above and beyond to ensure our vacation was completely effortless. Every recommendation was spot-on, and everything we asked for exceeded our expectations. Absolutely lovely! Alex, our security guard, was so kind and friendly, and the groundskeeper was there every day keeping the property immaculate.
Our only complaint is that we had to leave! We will most definitely be back.

This was the nicest place we’ve stayed in in many years. Chris, the hostess was amazing. The pool was immaculate, there is plenty of security, all of the rooms were very comfortable and clean. We had freshly cooked breakfast every morning. There’s now a grocery store a mile away that you could get anything you like. Absolutely five star.

Everything was spectacular from Cris our concierge who set us up with excursions and chef. Also, Maria our house mom, showed up everyday to make us breakfast and clean. You never knew she was there. The chef that we hired through Cris was Juan Carlos and his team, made 5 star dinners every night, Gustavo, our shuttle driver, ensured we got to the front of every line. The kids took surf lessons, and they all got up and rode the waves. From jumping in the waves right in front of the house, to relaxing 8n the pool, we couldn’t have asked for more.

The house was incredible and at the end of the road so very private! The photos and description are spot-on. The location and layout were perfect for our girls' trip of 6, offering plenty of space to spread out. The interior was great, but the outdoor spaces could not be beat—rocking chairs for morning coffee watching surfers, outdoor meals, relaxing on lounges, hammocks, and the bar area near the pool, offering both sun and shade areas. Every moment was pure bliss. The pool was a saltwater system, which we loved and it was the perfect size, not too small. The surf was great and the beach was very quiet/accessible/walkable. A heads-up for future guests: the casita is a separate building, accessible through the gardens. Carol made delicious breakfasts and snacks and was a joy to have in the home along with Chica the house dog, while Santos spoiled us with fresh coconut drinks. The evening security was friendly and respectful. Overall, an unforgettable stay, hard to top!

We stayed at Casa Colibri for spring break 2025. We were two families, four adults and 7 kids (ages 9 to 18). The house was fantastic.We didn't know a ton about Playa Grande before going... It is just north of Tamarindo, but takes about 30 minutes to get to Tamarindo because you need to drive around the river. This makes the Playa Grande beach much less populated. The little village is a wonderful beach town.Near the house there are a number of wonderful restaurants, with more connected with hotels. There was an excellent grocer store 5-6 minutes away, with a tiny pharmacy attached to it. The grocery store had nearly all the basics--including US cake mixes, ranch, ketchup, bacon, fruits, maple syrup, pancake mix, etc. Our kids drank tons of guarana soda. We did the grocery pre-stock service as we thought it would be hard to find groceries. While it was convenient, it wasn't necessary (except for the Dr. Pepper--which we couldn't find anywhere).Our house mom made breakfast for us every morning and did pico de gallo, guacamole, cut fresh fruit, and blended drinks for us daily. Note: There is a house dog that lives on the back patio. Very old dog that is sweet. Surf lessons and surf board lessons are very close and easy. We did use a private chef service for two dinners, Tamarindo Grill Master. It was absolutely fantastic. Showed up around 3 pm for appetizers around 5:15 pm and dinner at 6 pm. Casa Colibri was even better than the pictures. Hard to believe because the pictures are great! Everything about it was perfect for us, the pool, the beach, the house, the casita. The outdoor space is especially amazing, and the sunsets were spectacular. Evelyn took such good care of us. What a treat to have someone to make breakfast for us, do the dishes, laundry and keep the house in order while we enjoyed our vacation. We so appreciated everything she did for us. We did a few excursions like zip-lining and an estuary tour, but the house was so wonderful, we spent most of our time there. We also had The Golden Fork cater dinner one night. We highly recommend them. The dinner was great and affordable. We wished we had planned for two nights. Their contact is (506) 6488-3302. We hope to return to Casa Colibri and have already recommended it to friends. It is a fabulous place, do not hesitate to book this house. You will love it!

Pura Vida!! What an amazing house! The location is absolutely amazing, the perfect beach house. The property was very clean and well maintained. We feel safe with the security guard there 24/7. Cristina was so helpful and not only recommended great place to eat and took care of the tour, massage planning for us. It was such a treat to have Evelyn to cook and serve delicious breakfasts, snacks, drink and keep the house so clean daily. Santos the groundskeeper was a wonderful worker also. He cut down fresh coconuts for us to drink the coconut water. We will return for sure and definitely be suggesting this to friends and family!

Absolutely Amazing! This was the best vacation so far for our family. The location and the house exceeded our expectations. Cristina was so helpful and not only recommended great places to eat and visit but took care of the planning for us. Pura Vida!!!! Pictures are worth 1000 words and we have 1000 pictures! I cannot say enough about the friendliness of the local people! The on-site workers went out of their way to make sure we were happy. They were responsible for our trip being such a pleasure. From the daily interaction with Evelyn and Santos at Casa Colibri to the excursions with Don, from Get Lost In Costa Rica, and the fishing on the La Luna, it was all 5 star. Local restaurants are amazing and never received a bad meal from Hotel Tortuga, Rip Jack or El Huerto.

We LOVED our stay at Casa Colibri. It was clean and neat. The beach is large, beautiful, private and felt safe. We loved sitting in the rocking chairs, drinking our coffee in the morning while Evelyn cooked many delicious breakfasts. Santos the groundskeeper was a wonderful worker also. He cut down some fresh coconuts for us to drink the coconut water. Cris, our concierge was very good with communicating and always replied quickly. It was a most amazing vacation and we would return.

This was our first trip to Costa Rica. A similar house on Maui would likely be $2000+ a night. The house was beautiful, comfortable, full of lovely art and wood furniture. The staff were the nicest, most welcoming people. The home is about 20 minutes north of Tamarindo which we saw as a bonus. We would highly recommend this home. My only concern for future guests is that the house is currently up for sale. Will that change anything? I hope not.

Had an amazing time staying here! Can't say enough wonderful things about the staff- they were so attentive and helpful! The beach is secluded and typically empty so it really feels like a private oasis in front of some incredible surfing. Pool was always clean and sooo warm. Rooms have great AC so it's very comfortable inside when you want to escape the heat and humidity. All in all it was a perfect stay at Casa de Vre! We will be returning!!

We had a fabulous week at Casa de Vre enjoying beachfront living on a beautiful stretch of Playa Grande that offered endless waves for beginner to intermediate level surfing, long walks and runs on a wide and firm beach, incredible sunsets and stargazing. The location is close enough to walk to a few local restaurants and bars and surf shops for gear and lessons. A car gets you to grocery stores, Tamarindo and Flamingo with ease. The house is very comfortable with outdoor living during the day and plenty of room for evenings indoors. The kitchen is very well equipped. The pool area is fabulous. Bedrooms are all air conditioned and very comfortable. The staff at Casa de Vre was very friendly and helpful despite our lack of local language abilities. Thanks so much to our host, Leeana, for allowing us to enjoy this beautiful home.

Every morning we enjoyed our view from the porch of the ocean waves while drinking our coffee, took long walks on the beach and floated in the pool during the day and then admired the gorgeous sunsets right in front of our VRBO every night! Great communication with the host ahead of time and during our stay to help arrange rides to/from airport and Tamarindo as well as excursions. (Would highly recomend Play Grande Travel/Shuttle.) Casa de Vre was exactly what we were looking for! Steps away from a quiet beach and gorgeous views in every direction. The house itself is beautiful inside and out. Very comfortable for our family of 4, but we could have easily added another family and still had plenty of space. We loved watching the waves as we drank coffee in the rocking chairs each morning, swimming in the pool and ocean, and walking up and down the beach. 5-10 minute walk to several great restaurants. 30 minute drive to Tamarindo, Flamingo, and Potrero. The staff was amazing! They were all so friendly and made us feel right at home. We hope to be back soon!

The location is amazing if you are looking for a less crowded beach with good surf. The house opens up to the outside with sliding doors giving you an indoor/outdoor living experience with ceiling fans in every room to help with the warm humid air. Only the bedrooms have their own a/c unit and thermostat control. The kitchen has everything you need to prepare all your meals and if you don't want to cook you can pay Kimberly to cook for you. The kitchen only comes stocked with salt/pepper so plan on grocery shopping when you arrive. As you can see by the photos the house sits right on the beach but if you don't want to spend all your time in the ocean I think the infinity pool is one of the best features about this property. I brought pool floats with me as it doesn't come with any and then left them behind for the next guests. The property is absolutely beautiful and as an avid gardener I really appreciated all the work that goes into keeping the grounds looking lush and beautiful. Unfortunately the coconuts on the property were too green this time of year so we didn't get to enjoy them as we did when we came in the month of July. The staff is wonderful, kind and helpful! Evelyn kept the house very clean and with 24 hr security you always felt very safe. Suggestion: You might want to bring cheap slippers with you (like you get at a hotel or spa) because the floor gets very slippery when you get out of the shower even after drying your feet off.

From before we even rented to the time we left, Mary, Miguel and Travis were amazing! Mary helped us determine if the house was right for my dad. He is in a wheelchair and they went out of their way to build small ramps for him! We were all blown away by their kindness. Travis met us at check in and walked us through. He was fun and inviting. He made us feel right at home. Every question we had before and after we arrived was answered quickly. We truly loved our time here! The howler monkeys overhead in the morning, the iguana's leisurely walking in the yard and the sweet dog, who sweetly and silently guarded my dad's door each evening. We loved our visits with the family and how accessible they made themselves, when we needed anything and they were so very kind! If I had to list any negatives - it would be that the lower floor is a bit disjointed in its layout. There was no indoor living room to really sit and gather in when it was raining. However, outside and upstairs there were so many beautiful places outdoors that were set up for us to visit and eat together. We loved those moments and might not have done that had there been an indoor meeting area.. The grounds are beyond beautiful and meticulously cared for, with the beach just beyond the back gates. We cannot recommend staying in this hidden paradise highly enough. It is a beautiful hidden paradise with in walking distance to everywhere we wanted to go. If you stay here, you will want to come back for years to come.

Really awesome property, directly on the beach and 5-10 mins walk from just about anything you need while enjoying a beach vacation in CR. My only critical feedback is the beds are very squeaky, and I was sharing with one of my kids, so every time he moved, the bed squeaked and would wake me up. Otherwise, Evelyn is fantastic. Kimberly was such a great resource for grocery shopping and cooking breakfasts, and the security staff (Kenny especially) was so great. We loved playing with Chica and letting her off her leash to hang out with us in the yard. We loved it so much we already booked for next year!

We found Casa de Vre to be a perfect get-away for our family's winter vacation. This house was spacious for our family of 5 adults and 2 children. The beach and pool keep children and adults active for hours. The kitchen amenities are complete and excellent. The site is spectacular with georgeous sunsets as we transitioned from daytime fun to nighttime fun. The staff are friendly and helpful, and keep the house in immaculate condition. Absolute magical family vacation. Let me start by saying Leena and her team are amazing. Leeana replied within an hour whenever I had a question or inquiry and her property staff were superb. My husband (who will talk with anyone, we call him the mayor) speaks spanish and got to know the staff and by day 3 was bringing them coffee, chit-chats and fist pumps when we would come and go. It was assuring knowing they were there when we were not. Evelyn our housekeeper was there every day but was so quiet you barely knew she was there. As to the house, what more can I say than just perfect. Location in Playa Grande is great, the pool was bigger than anticipated (especially compared to the other houses on the block) and beach access was just a couple of steps away. Kitchen was well stocked with all utensils and cooking needs. We had the ladies cook us a dinner on my husbands 50th birthday, that was just so delicious. My daughter and her boyfriend are vegan and they did just as amazing on their dinner than they did ours (us normal people, lol). We are already dying to go back, had so many friends ask us for the link to book based on video and pics we took. Don't miss out on Taco Star 5min walk down the beach. Plus, Pots and Bowls, Rip Jack Inn and 1 Italian restaurant I can't remember name were some of our local favorites. No complaints but if I could recommend, I do agree with other posts about seating in the living room (cushions slide all over and not very comfy or a lot of seating space). My other would be to put an a/c unit in the living room. On humid days after the rain, we would sweat sitting inside and once it's dark you can not leave the doors open due to the bugs. But the bedrooms do have a/c which was nice for at night. But that won't stop us from coming back!! We also had my 2 grandkids (age 5 & 7 yrs old) with us and it was their 1st vacation outside the country and I could not have been more pleased with everything the house, location and Costa Rica had to offer them for a new cultural experience. This house is exactly as described. Absolutely beautiful, the location was perfect.. the pictures do not show just how beautiful all the wood furnishings-are from the rocking chairs on the porch(which we sat in day and night) to the beautiful bar by the pool, huge dining table and the pool is huge .The house is perfectly located right on the beach. The beach was great for long walks and sunsets and good surfing right out front. The kitchen had everything we needed. Maid service daily was a plus as well as 24 hr guard. (Nighttime guard was much attentive and friendly then daytime) This was our eighth trip to Costa Rica, but first time staying in Playa Grande and I would definitely go back and I would stay at Casa De Vre again.

This is our 3rd time staying here. But this time was post pandemic travel with elderly parents and young kids so we were more nervous but the staff at Casa DeVre was just amazing. They truly blew away our expectations. We loved the wonderful property manager that responds so quickly to all of our questions. Randy was awesome keeping our fridge filled with fresh coconuts to drink! Our fridge went out one day and he promptly moved over another to use in the meantime. He helped us set up our covid testing appointments we needed to fly out. The house cook is fantastic. We enjoyed wonderful poolside dinners with family. We had a spa day at the house with pedicures and massages. We appreciated that all staff wore masks. The sunsets are one of the best we have every seen. The remodel of the home is also amazing. So modern and open. After a stressful year this truly felt like a relaxing getaway. Looking forward to visiting again.

Such a beautiful property not only in location but in the beauty of the vegetation, furnishings and art. We all appreciated the wood furniture- no plastic even outside. Incredible hammocks. The staff is outstanding including housekeeper, security and gardener. The restaurant we kept coming back to was Rip Jack Inn -b/l/d. Surfboard and boogie board rentals in town. There is a market in town for basics.

The location of the property was perfect. Beautiful and practically private beach just steps from the porch. Pool is even bigger in person. The whole staff was super friendly and helpful. Only thing we would have liked is a little more seating in the family room. There was 7 of us and only one couch, so that was difficult. Everything else was perfect though. I also highly recommend doing your grocery shopping in Liberia or another larger town. Not a lot of options near the house and prices are high. Definitely recommend breakfast by Kimberly at the house and surfing with You are Costa Rica right down the street.

Casa de Vre fulfilled all of our expectations and more! Kimberly stocked our fridge and cooked dinner for us the first evening so we wouldn’t have to deal with the hassle of grocery shopping after traveling all day. The meal was delicious! Evelyn kept the house impeccably clean all week, while Randy and his crew provided 24-hour security. The view was amazing. Sunsets were unbelievable. The pool was perfect. Check out Taco Star which is within walking distance and has the best tacos! We got them for lunch several days. Don’t pass up the opportunity to walk to Black Sand Beach. It is just over a mile away and the black sand is worth seeing and experiencing. This location was wonderful. We did go into Tamarindo for dinner a few nights but much preferred the quiet, serene atmosphere of Playa Grande and Casa de Vre. One final tip for anyone who is an animal lover staying here…Casa de Vre has a house dog named Chica. If you don’t care for animals you will never know she is there, but we are huge animal lovers so we unhooked Chica from her tie every morning (with permission) and let her hang out with us all day. She is the sweetest dog and behaves very well. We took her for walks on the beach with her leash and she may have gotten some of Kimberly’s chicken that she made for us! We bought treats for Chica and left them there for her after our stay ended. Chica made our overall experience at Casa de Vre even better! If you love dogs, get to know Chica! Thanks for a fabulous vacation! Truly a paradise in Playa Grande!

We love Casa de Vre and the staff! We hardly left the house and enjoyed the pool and beach all day everyday. The tide pools were always an adventure and entertained our 3 year old for hours. I am in agreement with many of the other reviewers, and used their suggestions in planning our trip. We did surf lessons and rented boards from You Are Costa Rica, which worked out really nicely. We also booked an excursion through them to Hacienda Guachepelin and did the zip line (great!), horseback riding (good!), tubing (OK), and mud bath/hot springs (gross don't do it). The house itself was beautiful, the pool was actually much larger than I expected, you can actually do laps in it. The only downsides were that the public beach in front of the house actually got a bit crowded on the weekend before Easter. People quickly invaded the shade trees and hammocks in front of the house, and there was quite a bit of drinking and loud music well into the darkness of the night. This was a bit freaky as you knew people were out there on the beach, but you couldn't quite see them from the house. Definitely not a fault of the owner or house, just something to keep in mind for busy times. As far as eating, I would recommend Rip Jack Inn over Hotel Las Tortugas by far. The pizza joint is also pretty good. The food in Tamarindo is at least a few stars better than anything you can get in Playa Grande. We ate at the Dragonfly which was delicious. Overall a great experience.

Our family of 7 loved Casa de' Vre. If you are like me, you are obsessively researching every house in Costa Rica right now. You can stop. Rent this one. We had ages 2 to 65 and everyone was happy and entertained and safe here. We talked all day everyday about how great it was! Playa Grande is gorgeous. High tide has lots of surfer/body surfing action. Low tide was very calm and safe for the kids. Playa Grande itself is kind of a sleepy surfer town, so if you are looking for lots of nightlife/restaurants/entertainment, this may not be the area of Costa Rica for you. BUT, if the idea of a gorgeous/interesting beach at your toes when you wake up is all that you need to be happy... this is the area and this is the house. Tamarindo is a 30 min drive and we made it there a couple of times just for enter/shopping. This is the best house in Playa Grande. We were told by everyone who found out that we were staying there. Don't overthink it, just book it :) MUST DOs: Lola's at Playa Avellana: prepare for the bumpy hour drive but always worth it! Spa de Eros: incredible mountain spa (45 min drive) Taco Star: easy grab and go tacos just a walk down the beach Dinner cooked by Zulma: we had her come twice (Leeana helped to arrange) Massage by Teo: Her number is at the house. My husband was recovering from a major shoulder injury when we traveled. She came to the house every day and is a massage PRO! You Are Costa Rica: this company is right around the corner and was very helpful in setting up tours. Most of our entertainment came from hanging as a family at the house! The kids swam in the warm and clean pool all day long. We all had plenty of space to not be in each others way. Enjoy your trip!

I can’t begin to describe what an incredible trip we had to Costa Rica and our stay at Casa de Vre! We had two adults in for surfing teenagers in the house was perfect for all of us. The surf right outside the house was great and the two adults enjoyed walking to the local hotels for a drink and a snack. The kitchen has everything you need and the rooms with air-conditioning is an absolute must in the Costa Rican weather. We would all absolutely stay again! We had a great time in Costa Rica. Casa de Vre was better than the pictures show. From the moment we arrived we opened the sliding glass doors to hear the ocean waves outside. This property is steps from the surf and we spent many hours on the beach or relaxing in the wooden rocking chairs under the covered porch. The kitchen is well stocked, the rooms are air conditioned and each one had a private bath. There is also an outdoor shower! The pool and patio were lovely! We had Zulma make delicious meals for us a few nights and there was no better place for a sunset dinner! The house staff, Evelyn, Kenneth and Randy were wonderful! Leeana was very helpful and we recommend Marianna and Marcos at youarecostarica to help with bike rentals, tours and surfing lessons! Thanks to all for making our visit to CR so fun!

This is our third time staying at Casa de Vre, and it's the perfect vacation house. It's very hard to find a house with an amazing pool, super comfortable accommodations, wonderful staff and just steps away from the most beautiful uncrowded beach. We love the mornings and evenings on the beach and always made sure to be out at sunset. Even the teenage kids would get up early to walk on the beach in the mornings. We rented surfboards and boogie boards for the week, and we would go out whenever we saw from the house that the waves were the best. It was nice to be able to walk down the beach for great tacos at the Taco Star, and we loved the plantains, guacamole and vanilla milkshakes at Hotel Las Tortugas. We also enjoyed eating local fish, rice and beans at Kike's Place and another favorite restaurant was Rip Jack Inn. Also, make sure to have Zulma cook for you at the house. It's really the best to walk out and watch the sunset and then have one of Zulma's amazing meals! One excursion we really loved was the horseback riding experience at Finca las Garzas. The farm is beautiful and they give you a meal, a ride on an ox cart, have you milk cows and see pigs, along with a horseback ride through their beautiful property, well worth it! The experience at this house can't be beat, and we will be back again for sure!

We had an AMAZING family vacation at Casa de Vre'!! This home is beautifully appointed and in an idyllic setting - we could not have asked for more! The beach, pool, amenities were perfect, the staff and agent (Leeana) were wonderful - and we arranged for a meal prepared by Zulma that was out of this world! Our trip was amazing! Not only is the property well kept, safe and very clean...the staff (housekeeper, night guard and gardener) were exceptionally friendly. The housekeeper, Culma, did most of our grocery shopping, cooked all of our meals and cleaned...after we tried to help her, she made it clear that she was willing to help and/or take care of us because we were on vacation! Loved her! Also, the masseuse was absolutely spot on if you love deep tissue massages. Marcos, from You Are Costa Rica, taught my husband and son to surf. He was not only amazing at surfing himself, but patient and kind in giving lessons! Lots of fun!! We will be back for sure!!!

Our family of 5 had an amazing 9 nights! The house is beautiful and the beach is right at your doorstep. The staff - Zulma, Randy and David - were wonderful. The house includes everything you need for a relaxing vacation. The infinity pool is gorgeous and all the landscaping makes the house feel like it's own little resort. Everything in the house was in working order, well kept, clean and very safe. Don't miss out on all the hidden extras - such as the bakery truck that comes twice a week! This area of Playa Grande feels very private and secluded. You are close enough to go into Tamarindo as desired for shopping or dining. However, Playa Grande does have some nice restaurants close by too - Hotel Bula Bula and Rip Jack Inn were two of our favorites. Also make sure you book your surfing, SUP, etc through YouAreCostaRica. Mariana is very helpful and Marcos is a great teacher! We will be back again for more of the Pura Vida!

Better than described. House staff are exceptional. Location is perfect. Zulma's cooking made our stay extra special. Ask for her guacamole, salsa, and mahi mahi civeche. All were the best we've ever had. The house is extremely well maintained and location is perfect. Marianna at You Are Costa Rica provides all the bookings for rentals and excursions and will even deliver rentals to the house prior to your arrival. Wil-Mart is good for quick convenience groceries but Mega Super is best for stocking up and fresh meats. Pura Vida!

We were looking for a beautiful, comfortable and private home in Costa Rica with the best beach and we found it! You will not regret staying in this house. The house itself is extremely clean and gorgeous. You walk out to your back yard (the beach) and have a private beach right around the corner. Zulma was spectacular and we felt right at home. If you need her to cook for the family, she will and everything she made was absolutely delicious! I would stay here again.

Casa De Vre' is the best beach house on this side of Playa Grande! The house is designed with open views of the ocean. You step-out of your bedroom and you're on the beach. It offers the best sunset vistas from anywhere in the grounds and property with its beautiful gardens and landscapes. The luxurious accommodations and exclusivity are better than anything we've had with other high-end hotels. There is more than enough room for a group family vacation. Each bedroom is Air-conditioned which is a nice plus, however, one wouldn't spend much time in them as there are so many things that will occupy your time outdoors, such as surfing, boogey-boarding, nature walks, beach combing, or simply relax in a couple of outdoor hammocks right outside your steps, perfect for an afternoon nap or siesta, or lounge around the pool area which gives you unrestricted views of the ocean and the nightly sunset vistas - the best neon patchwork in the skies! This place makes you feel like you belong here..you wouldn't want to leave.. ◦

We just returned from Casa de Vre ... it was so hard to leave! The house was amazing and the views were incredible. We literally rolled out of bed and onto the beach each morning. The surfers among us enjoyed perfect waves for hours at a time right out front while the kids went for long walks, chased crabs, and played in the surf. The pool was perfect for an afternoon respite and the outdoor showers were an unexpected bonus. Morning coffee in the hammocks and evening "sundowners" on the beach are a must. The staff were outstanding: Don David made us feel safe at night; Randy brought us fresh coconuts; and Zulma made us the most delicious lunch. Everyone at Frijoles surf shop (walking distance from the house) was really friendly and helpful. Stop by Cafe Mar Azul for delicious food and the coldest beers in Playa Grande. A great time was had by all ... we can't wait to go back!

We love Casa de Vre and recently stayed for our third time. Needless to say we have already booked our 4th stay for next year. The house is fantastic and literally right next to the beach. The pool is a great escape from the ocean and the house if very good. The staff is also very accommodating and helpful with cooking and laundry (if needed). We love Playa Grande and use the house as a base to also go visit other areas for day trips. I highly recommend staying here.

The house is very comfortable: large air conditioned rooms and bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen, wifi, nice grill by the pool, large terrace, ... The staff, Zulma, Randi, And David, provided us with every convenience from delicious meals prepared by Zulma ; coconut water from Randi; the security provided from dusk to dawn by David! The booking agent, Leanna, was very helpful. She was easy to get ahold of and always returned my calls. They are the sweetest, kindest people and we were in tears saying good-bye! Having the beautiful infinity pool was a real bonus! I definitely would recommend staying at Casa de Vre. And I definitely will be staying there again!

We recently enjoyed a ten day vacation with our family of four at this property. It was our first time as a family to vacation in Costa Rica, and we all agreed at the end of our trip that this was definitely among our top favorite vacations. The property is beautiful, and the view and beach are just amazing! At the time of our visit, we felt like we were practically on a private beach. The sunsets were breathtaking, and we loved being steps from the surf and long stretches of beach which allowed for walking, exploring, photos, etc. This was such a relaxing vacation for our family. We enjoyed exploring parts of Costa Rica with an adventure tour including zip lining, horseback riding, white water tubing and a mud bath. The boys enjoyed a fishing trip, and we loved spending time in Tamarindo for shopping and some nice meals out. We loved getting to know Brittney at Taco Star down the beach; some of the best tacos ever! But our favorite part of the trip had to be the time we spent on this property. The staff is incredible, so kind, hospitable, and accommodating. Zulma is now our very favorite cook! Randy the gardener was awesome and brought us coconut waters and was so helpful with anything we needed around the property. And the night guard David was always on top of things; we felt completely safe the entire time being in a private home. There was someone on the property with us 24/7, which was so nice. They were never intrusive, just extremely helpful. The living areas of the home are open air, which we weren't sure about at first. But we very quickly realized that we loved the fact that we could have doors open with the ocean just steps away. And the a/c in the bedrooms was divine! The pool area is fabulous with a Jacuzzi in one end. We loved having Zulma cook for us and so enjoyed having meals on the patio area around the pool. If you are looking for a relaxing vacation that makes you feel pampered and at home, this is a great place to come. Not to mention the fact that you will feel like you're in paradise! We definitely plan to return!

We have visited Costa Rica numerous times to visit family, and this is our favorite place to stay. The setting is gorgeous! The surf can be intimidating for kids, but they love the beach and the pool, so we have stayed here twice. We love the open air living area of the house, which is nothing fancy but perfect for the beach. The garden is special too. At low tide you can walk to a fabulous secluded cove with tide pools, beyond the pretty beach north of Playa Grande where a freshwater creek runs into the sea. Our travel dates were not available this year, so we have to go elsewhere, but I'm sure we'll be back.

Our family has visited this home many times over the years. Sometimes when we come back, we bring friends with us. Each time we go, it's like coming home. The staff is amazing and takes care of everyting. There is someone on the property 24/7. This is a single level home and very comfortable. The pool is just steps away from the back door and there are views of the ocean from every room. The beach is pristine. We have been many places and you won't find a nicer beach most anywhere. It's not a short walk but you can talk to town. You just have to take a water taxi at the end of the beach to get there. There is so much to explore in Costa Rica, but we are happy just to stay close, eat at the local restaurants and get to see the restaurant owners who we have seen on previous trips. Volcano Areanal is also a great road trip but you'll want to go for an overnight trip. Stop by Lucky Bug Gallery and B and B on your way to arenal. We plan to be back!

We had the best time at Carmela by the Sea. This was the best house and the location is primo. The beds were very comfortable and the swimming pool gorgeos. We had a great time in Costa Rica and loved this house. We surfed right outside. The beach was amazing and perfect for all our kids. Playa Grande was a great place to stay. We booked surf lessons as well as all our adventure tours through Frijoles Loco surf shop. They were very helpful. We highly recommend staying here!!

8 of us - 4 adults and 4 kids (11,14,15,17) - just spent 4 nights at Casa Carmela on Playa Grande. We had a awesome time and would recommend this highly if the price falls within your budget. The location is unbeatable and the ammenities at the house more than you need. We could not find on-line reviews prior to booking, and were apprehensive but booked anyway, and we're very happy we did. They have a guest book at the house which contains 12 reviews, all glowing. We had spent the previous 11 days travelling from San Jose, to Malpais, Arenal, Monteverde and finally PG.All were great areas but PG was our favorite. When we arrived it was like stepping into an oasis... we really did not want to leave as nothing could beat the setting or be as relaxing. We did a few excursions in PG - there are lots- area but couldn't wait to get back to the house. Went to Tama but could have passed on it. The pool was great and you could easily go back and forth to the beach. Lots of birdlife .... fisherman 100 metres to the right of the house, hand reeling in big fish and selling to owners of the few houses on the beach ( I think there re only 6 or 7). Fab sunsets (we'd watch from the wide veranda or drag loungers onto the beach itself) and sunrises. Surfing/boogeyboarding was excellent. Nice gentle break directly in front of the house, a more challenging one 200 metres to the right and the toughest (and most crowded break - for excellent surfers only) a 5 minute walk to the left of the house in front of one of the single hotels. We rented boards from Matos in town. My son and I surf and the other 3 kids are learning - all got great rides in a totally uncrowded waves/wash. $15/day for a couple of glass longboards... boogeyboards were $10 ( a little much I thought. I liked the vibe at Matos... very laid back ( we dealt with Jason from Virginia Beach), good selection and a little cheaper than Frijoles who wanted $20 / day without same selection. Kitchen was a little dated but it didn't bother us one bit! Big Costco BBQ worked well , although they could use new briquettes to distribute heat. Fridge was ice cold. Staff was great... Zulma did laundry and dishes... she and gardner were always around but not intrusive. The night guard totally gave us peace of mind - if that is an issue - although they have never had any problems.
